It's finally here!!...

Aclfesticon
Ladies and Gentlemen...it's time!...Time for one of the biggest music events in the south...It's time for the Austin City Limits Music Festival!! If you live anywhere within earshot of an Austin radio station you should know all about the festival. Over one hundred artists, for three days, playing on about seven stages, outdoors at Zilker Park...it's really going to be something!! Everyone who is anyone will be there, including lots of out-of-towners, and probably loads and loads of groupies. What does it all mean?...Well, in a nutshell, it means that Zilker park is the place to be this weekend. On top of the fact that there'll be a incredibly diverse number of musical acts, there will be food, drinks, and fashion--because, let's face it, it would be enough fun to just sit and people watch at this gig; people can wear some pretty strange things. All that said, forget about any conflicting plans you might've made for this weekend and get over to the Austin City Limits Music festival. (For more info, click on the ACL fest icon)
And as if I could make things any easier on you--I've put together a little ACL care kit.

Music Spotlight!

Theshins_3
If you saw Garden State then you heard them play. They are definately not a pop phenomenon, but for those of you interested in soothing indie rock The Shins are here!! Somewhat similar to Death Cab for Cutie or Modest Mouse, The Shins play the kind of music that'll make you smile. Their latest release, Chutes Too Narrow has a nice combination of upbeat melodies with a few tracks to slow things down. They're almost remniscent of The Beatles at times, but end the CD with a song more in line with Death Cab. To make a long story short, they are great and they're playing at Stubb's tomorrow (Sept 11), doors open at 7pm. Stubb's is a fabulous music venue, but remember it's outdoors and you will most likely be standing--so wear some comfortable shoes. After all, The Shins don't really play the kind of music that requires a black tie! Just enjoy the show!!

If you want to read more about The Shins and listen to some of their tunes here's another site for ya!

By the way, if you have any suggestions for a Music Spotlight feel free to comment...just click the comment button and post about your favorite bands!

Musical Kaleidoscope

polyphonic_spreeAll you have to do is check out their website and you will quickly get an idea of what Polyphonic Spree is like. They resemble the psychedelic sounds of the late sixties; think Yellow Submarine. Trippy and orchestrated, it's nice to hear a different style amongst the ocean of main stream pop music before us. Great for windows down, driving in summer heat and munchin on a snow cone! You may have heard them on MTV or seen them peform on Conan O'Brian...No, you say? Well, you're in luck because they'll be doing a FREE (yes, free) Live in-store performance at Waterloo Records (right next door to Emeralds) Wednesday (8/4) at 5pm. Here's a plan, stop by Emeralds to get yourself a brand new White skirt at 10% off, then hop on over to Waterloo for a far out time hangin with Polyphonic Spree.

Is The Beatles' I am the Walrus persistently stuck in your head?...Maybe you're just a hippie at heart; check out these funky fridge mags!
